Join us as a Support Assistant (Support worker)

In a world that rewards success and winning, L'Arche communities are places where people with and without learning disabilities can take time to explore who they are, not just what they can do. L'Arche London is a place of welcome and belonging where everyone is transformed by the experience of community, relationship, disability and difference.

Find out what members of our community say about their experience here:

People choose to join L'Arche as a Support Worker for people with learning disabilities (we say 'assistants') for a variety of reasons: they might be looking for a career break or a career change, wanting to give their life new meaning. They might come to L'Arche to learn or develop new skills and attitudes to people with learning disabilities or they might be a care professional seeking a new context and deeper meaning in their work.

There are several ways to work with us:

Residential/Live-in Support Assistant

Full training, accommodation and housing expenses, food and a monthly living allowance of £355 is provided. These roles are open to anyone from the UK, EU citizens who have existing permission to work in the UK, and we are able to sponsor a Tier 5 Volunteer Charity Worker Visa for international applicants (from January 2021 this includes EU citizens.)
To find out more about this opportunity, click on the blue heading above to download the role description. Then fill in the form at the bottom of the page.

Non-residential/Live-in Support Assistant

We are currently (January 2021) looking for people with 1+ years experience and the Care Certificate (or equivalent qualification), and whilst we welcome applications from people of all genders, we are prioritising applications from female candidates to balance our team and the range of support we offer.

In late Spring 2021, we hope to be able to offer a small number of entry level roles for those new to care looking to start in March - April 2021. We would encourage those who are interested to apply now.

All roles are open to UK citizens and those who already have permission to work in the UK. Unfortunately we are not able to sponsor visas for these roles.

Entry level starting salary is £21,612 per year. (Base salary £18,924 plus £2688 for sleepovers based on an average of 2 sleepovers a week.)

For those with 1+ year’s experience in UK Care and with Care Certificate/ equivalent qualification the starting salary is £22,268 (Base rate £19580 plus £2688 for sleepovers based on an average of 2 sleepovers a week).
All roles require a minimum of a 1 year commitment.

Relief/Bank Support Assistants

We are always looking for people with previous L'Arche experience (either from L'Arche London or other L'Arche communities around the world) or external candidates with relevant care experience to join our team of Relief Assistants.
To find out more about this opportunity, click on the blue heading above to download the role description.
This is a flexible working role, with hours dependent on your availability and the needs of the people you support. We are looking for people to join us for at least one year.
Our hourly rate works out as £9.77 per hour (including holiday pay). We also pay a base fee of £28 per sleep over and operate a top up scheme to ensure that every hour of a 9 hour sleepover is paid at National Minimum Wage. We provide our assistants with an ongoing programme of training, professional and personal development.
To find out more about this opportunity, click on the blue heading above to download the role description. Then fill in the form at the bottom of the page.

To apply for any of the roles above, please complete our application form:
